Why Barry?

Because when it comes to mental health and self improvement, I really know what I am doing.

I love helping people. I did it as a teacher, as a senior leader and now as a psychologist, psychotherapist and mental health educator.

And people seem to like working with me! Why? Well, when we work together it is about you, not me.

Who you are. Why you are struggling. What your unique needs are.

And how we can work together to make real change and improvement happen.

How do we do this?

I am a member of the British Psychological Society, a qualified psychologist and psychotherapist with a MSc in Psychology (Mental Health and Well-being).

That means I help you using evidence based cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT/CBH) and sleep science for people from age 13+.

My specialisms

Stress, sleep, work performance and mental health. Why? They are fundamental (and fundamentally linked!) to the success of our every day lives. Addressing them helps my mission - to make a real difference for you in the real world.

And if you get them right? They also spill over into all aspects of our life.

I help you challenge and change your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. I help you sleep better, stress less and perform better, be more productive, happier and healthier. And to top it off, I am a bit of a self development nut so I can help you there too!

Do I practice what I teach?

In a word, yes.

All the help and techniques I use, I have done/experienced myself. They have helped me be fitter, healthier, more productive and most importantly - happier. And they can do this for you too.

I believe in living what you teach, not just preaching!

1-2-1 Sessions

My solution-focused sessions are evidence based and incredibly versatile.

A brief (free) phone/Zoom call where you can meet me in person and ask questions is followed by a full initial consultation that explores the issues so that we can create an agreed treatment plan before tackling the issues.

You will find that progress in one area, such as anxiety, may also have positive impacts in other areas of your life, such as self esteem.

Education Workshops/Seminars

As a qualified and experienced former teacher and Assistant Principal in Bath I know how important it is for teachers, lecturers, students and support staff to cultivate and maintain good mental health.

I provide workshops/training outside of CBT/mindfulness/hypnotherapy to help students and staff deal with (among other things) school/home/exam pressures, motivation, focus/calm, management of anxiety and stress, personal care and general mental welfare.

I also provide 1 - 2 - 1 therapy for students and staff alike upon request.

Business Workshops/Talks

I work with you to tailor sessions to your needs. They are both informative and enjoyable as well as a source of learning useful new skills.

Better mental health support at work has been shown by the research to reduce absenteeism, boost a sense of belonging and provide other beneficial changes which significantly save businesses money and make employees happier and more productive.

Workshops range from one-off, 1 hour/half/full days to complete programmes.
