Stress less with Barry Bray at Present Future Self in Bath

Stress is our mental and physical response to the world around us - and it affects us ALL.

It makes you feel anxious, afraid, angry, worried.

You may get headaches, poor sleep, mood swings.

If affects your confidence and motivation as well as your relationships and ability to simply function daily.

Doing nothing and allowing it to get worse is NOT an option.

And this is where I can help you.

So how do you achieve stress relief and control?

I use a combination of cognitive behavioural therapy (more commonly known as CBT) and hypnotherapy.

It's okay not to be okay stress management Present Future Self

CBT is the most well-researched and effective psychotherapy there is. It is based on the principle that stress is caused by deeply ingrained dysfunctional thought processes that affect the way we feel and behave.

So we address your thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

Understand your triggers and responses.

And work together to address them in both the short and long term.

Hypnotherapy?

No, this is not some fringe treatment, parlour trick or ‘magic’ – I am most definitely not Derren Brown (though we both have fine beards!).

A meta-analysis in 1995 showed that CBT with hypnosis was more effective than the same treatment with just CBT with issues ranging from obesity and hypertension to insomnia and public speaking anxiety. In 2005 another study showed that with acute stress there was a greater reduction in re-experiencing symptoms post-treatment than CBT alone. In 2016 at Stanford they even mapped how the brain changes under hypnosis.

So what is it? Hypnosis is an induced, hyper-focused state of attention where you are in control. It makes you more suggestible and helps you re-frame thoughts and feelings. I combine it with CBT to ‘supercharge’ your progress.

Oh! – and hypnotherapy is approved by both the BPS (British Psychological Society) and the APA (American Psychological Society) as a treatment in psychotherapy.

Double-oh! – as part of the therapy I teach you self-hypnosis so you can access this amazing state when you need to.

The result? You can tackle stress more effectively and consistently in the real world, not just in the therapy room.

Better sleep, better performance and a healthier outlook on all aspects of life.

No outrageous claims of ‘cures’ or ‘instant’ long term fixes.

Because they just do not exist.

Everything I do is based in the EVIDENCE – stuff that WORKS, that has CREDIBLE research behind it – NO ‘woo-woo’.

Does this work?

Yes, but rather than take my word for it have a read of these.

Before working with Barry, I was struggling badly with my mental health. I was suffering from low confidence at work, in my personal life and it was affecting everything.

I was really self-critical. I would beat myself up over common mistakes, would give myself a hard time over the smallest thing going wrong, and was constantly talking down to myself, making my confidence even worse.

Since working with Barry, I've had a dramatic transformation. I'm making more time for my self-care through an arsenal of techniques he has shown me. This has led to better confidence, better productivity and better results in my personal and professional life across the board.

Barry is professional and awesome at what he does, can't recommend him enough.”

I was advised a few years ago to look into cognitive behavioural therapy. I finally took the leap when I saw Barry´s advertisement a few months ago and I am so glad that I did.

From the very start Barry has been very understanding, supportive, flexible and friendly. He has genuinely listened to my issues and has guided me, pushed me, and helped me through them by breaking them down into more manageable pieces.

The therapy has already made a huge difference in my day-to-day life. I look forward to every session and have had a surprisingly good experience with hypnosis. I really like having the sessions through Zoom as I can be in my own home when they take place.

I would 100% recommend getting in touch and see if he can help you.”

We contacted Barry after my 16 year old son was taken into hospital with a bad anxiety attack. This was very frightening for all of us as it came out of the blue! Barry was amazing with my son and due to the pandemic spoke to him via zoom link. From the moment my son spoke to Barry he felt better and able to feel calmer again. Barry taught him ways to deal with the anxiety attacks and as the weeks went on they became less frequent. Barry was amazing and my son found him easy to talk too and very understanding. My son is a lot better now and enjoying life once again.

Thank you Barry.

Dad rang to say life at home since lockdown was incredibly difficult and she has become a different person.  She is screaming and shouting; everything they suggest or do as parents is wrong or worsens the situation.

Unpicking this, Barry found she is overwhelmed by stress relating to exams and future choices. She is a person who does not normally open up (according to Dad) but she is now willing/wanting to engage.

With one week to go before the GCSE tests finish, she is finally starting to relax, laugh and be happy.  We have noticed a significant improvement in her mental health. Barry’s intervention stopped her from not only becoming school phobic/school refuser but enabled the family to function once again as a cohesive unit.
